 Canadian Work Permit

We will apply to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) at the Canadian Embassy in Beijing, on behalf of the foreign live-in-caregiver,  for a work permit in order to work in Canada.

CIC is responsible for determining whether a foreign caregiver is eligible to come to Canada under the live-in caregiver program.

CIC will approve an application and issue a work permit to the caregiver if the applicant meets the program criteria and satisfies all other lmmigration requirements.

The assessment of caregivers is based on their level of education, training, experience, and language skills.

Caregivers will also be asked to submit an employmeat contract.

A Canadian Work Permit is a document, issued by CIC in Beijing, China, after careful assessment of the qualifications of the foreign live-in-caregiver, that authorizes the caregiver to legally work in Canada. A work permit is specific to one employer.

In many Canadian embassies overseas the processing time for a live-in-caregiver Work Permit  is more than one year. In the Canadian Embassy in Manila, Philippines, it will take two years from the time the Philippine caregiver applies for a Work Permit until the time it is actually issued by the Canadian Embassy.

The Canadian Embassy in Beijing, China, however, is one of the most efficient, and processes the Work Permit for a Chinese live-in-caregiver within two to three months of receipt of the application.

A work permit is valid for one year.

A foreign Live-in-caregiver must obtain a new work permit from the Case Processing Centre (CPC) in Vegreville, Alberta, if they

o       Continue to work for the same employer after the original Work Permit has expired, or

o       Want to change employers

CPC Vegreville will normally process an Application to Change Terms and Conditions or Extend My Stay in Canada within 25 days of receiving a properly completed application. It is therefore advisable to begin processing the Application at least 60 days prior to the termination of the existing Work Permit.
